We would like to know how long have you been open this hotel?
This hotel has been open for the last 18 years.
Do you know what the place was before the hotel was built?
My husband told me it was a supermarket before.
Can you remember the name?
Lian Fatt supermarket.
So now you handle the hotel and restaurant?
Yes.
Are you the first generation for this business?
Nope, this hotel is from my husband’s father.
It’s a family business?
Nobody else is taking care of this hotel, so I take care.
How many staff do you have here?
About 20-21 staff members. That includes the hotel and restaurant staff.
And how many rooms in this hotel?
We have 63 rooms.
So, mostly your customer comes from?
Locals, Singaporeans, Indonesian and China.
Does the Coronavirus affect your business?
Very bad, lots of cancellation.
Offering half price lah.
Even if we have a promotion nobody would come also. People now won’t dare to go out. Even they would prefer to eat at home. It affected my restaurant very badly too. Talking about eating, you have a restaurant in this hotel, what food are you serving?
We have a Nyonya Restaurant.
What are the dishes you serve?
Nyonya foods lah, like Fish Chilli Garam, Pineapple Prawn, Pork Chilli Garam. Our restaurant is non halal, Pie Ti. The Pork Chilli Garam is our signature dish in the restaurant. Rendang Chicken.
How long has this restaurant opened?
About 6 years.
Before the restaurant what was the place?
It was used for the hotel guests for breakfast.
Did you rent or buy the place?
We owned the building, I meant not me lah, my husband. I’m just a manager here.
How many stars is this hotel?

Because this hotel belongs to your husband. You take care of it all?
Nope, I have my little sister to take care of the running of the hotel and I take care of the restaurant. My sister helps me to take care of the hotel.
Do you know about running a restaurant before?
At first I didn’t know. I have to learn. Then how to open a business. I cannot depend on the staff.
What’s the priciest room in this hotel?
It’s a big room, it costs about RM300+. 4-5 people can stay. The cheapest one is about RM100+.
Tell us more about your staff?
Our staff are mostly mixed for the hotel. Front desk are all Malays, our housekeeping are mixed foreign workers and Malays.
How about your Malays hotel guests, they don’t go to your restaurant?
No, they just stay at the hotel and eat outside. We don’t serve breakfast. We sell rooms only, no breakfast.
How high is this hotel’s qua floors?
We have 5 floors in this hotel.
